Movie Title: Delicate Balance, A (1973)

Movie Plot Summary: The setting is the comfortable Connecticut home of a well-to-do family. Agnes is a determined, powerful woman who feels she must hold her husband together and present a brave face to the world. Her husband, Tobias, is both retired and retiring, a man who cannot quite face up to life. Living with the couple is Agnes’ sister, Claire, an alcoholic who sees through and scoffs at the insincerity and pretensions around her. Clare’s outrageous comments are meant as much to reflect her own bitterness as to shake Tobias out of his mute acceptance of Agnes’ dominance. They are soon joined by Harry and Edna, a married couple who are Agnes and Tobias’ best friends and Agnes and Tobias’ spoiled 36-year old daughter, Julia, who returns home from her fourth broken marriage.

Movie Title: Pardon Our Nerve (1939)

Movie Plot Summary: City girls (Bari, Lang) have dating service jobs long enough to learn that a society matron needs a boxer to perform at a party. They talk a waiter (Williams) into playing the part and a series of accidents and tricks sends him on a boxing career.

Movie Title: Rezervni deli (2003)

Movie Plot Summary: Embittered widower, Ludvik, spends his nights transporting illegal refugees in his van from Croatia, across Slovenia, and into Italy. The young and inexperienced Rudi acts as his helpmate. Together they become a well-trained duo who almost every night convey spare parts to Italy. Of course the story of their illegitimate exports into Europe ends tragically, for everyone. The whole idea of this account is that everyone – including ourselves – is looking for happiness: the spare parts because of the misery they are plunged into without, and our characters because they can’t find it inside.
